Time to Get a New Homepage…

… if Firefox currently opens to the NY Times but you don’t want to pay the $15 per month that an online subscription will cost.
If you choose to search for a replacement, think about what the mini-exodus from the popular news site will mean for journalistic diversity and an informed citizenry. If you choose to pony up the cash, think about what the (aggregate) windfall will mean for the Times and any of its competitors which choose to follow the pay model. Will it mean a profit for Arthur Sulzberger and Slim Helu, will it facilitate investments into the parts of the paper which make money but serve private purposes, like the real estate section, or will it support the paper’s functions which make little money but serve the most important public functions, like investigative journalism?
I wrote about these issues in an article one year ago; there have been few, if any, relevant changes which could outdate the article. Read it!
Although the HPR has no plans to charge for its online content, we still appreciate any support you can give us by subscribing to the print magazine or, for the environmentalists among you, donating to our organization.
